Transdisciplinary Homelessness Research: Measure H and Beyond

This one week residency by visiting speaker Prof. Dennis Culhane of the University of Pennsylvania is designed to galvanize transdisciplinary research and training in response to the homelessness crisis. In Los Angeles County, more than $1 billion in annual expenditures fund strategies to combat the homelessness and housing crisis. This is a critical moment for the UCLA research community to support policymakers with rigorous research to inform and evaluate these massive investments, including Measures H and HHH, while fulfilling our commitment to the public good.

Clean Air and Policy Workshop

Support for a two-day "Clean Air and Policy" Workshop initiated by faculty from both the Joint Research Institute in Science and Engineering by Peking University and UCLA, and the Center for Clean Air at UCLA Institute of Environment and Sustainability (IoES). The overarching goal of the workshop is to expand the scope of the 2014 JRI symposium by bringing in government officials and policymakers from both California and China to join JRI faculty and students to discuss public health and policy issues related to air pollution.

Latin American Institute

The UCLA Latin American Institute is a vital regional, national, and international resource on Latin America. Since its founding in 1959, the LAI has equipped generations of leaders, professionals, and students with the information and skills required for understanding the vast and complex region of Latin America. The LAI supports research by funding grants and foreign-language instruction, and disseminates recent scholarship through conferences, workshops, public programs, teacher training, and publications.

Institute for Research on Labor & Employment

The Institute for Research on Labor and Employment is a multidisciplinary research center dedicated to the study, teaching, and discussion of labor and employment issues. Through the work of its units - IRLE Academic Unit, Center for Labor Research and Education, Human Resources Roundtable and the Labor Occupational Safety and Health program – the Institute forms wide-ranging research agendas that carry UCLA into the Los Angeles community and beyond.

Center for the Study of Women

The UCLA Center for the Study of Women is an internationally recognized center for research on gender, sexuality, and women’s issues and the first organized research unit of its kind in the University of California system. Though CSW is funded by the Division of Social Sciences, it serves the entire university.

Center for Near Eastern Studies

The Center for Near Eastern Studies at UCLA encourages, coordinates and integrates instruction and research in the humanities and the social sciences, business, law, medicine and the media, and in all languages essential to an understanding of the Near East. The Center pioneered study and research on the large and diverse Middle Eastern American communities in the United States.
