Ruth Roemer Social Justice Symposium and Alumni Hall of Fame Induction

The Ruth Roemer Social Justice Symposium honors the legacy of the late Ruth Roemer, FSPH Professor Emerita, JD, who for over five decades used the law to protect and promote health and was a champion of health equity and social justice.

Join us as we award Hilda L. Solis, county supervisor for the First District of Los Angeles County, with the 2019 Ruth Roemer Social Justice Leadership Award. As County Supervisor since 2014, Solis has contributed significantly to improving the health and well-being of her constituents and eliminating health disparities across the county.

In 2018, there were 40,000 gun deaths in the United States, the highest number in 40 years. Suicides, mass shootings, assaults and accidental shootings underscore gun violence as a critical public health issue. Join us to explore the traumatic impact gun violence has on the health and safety of our communities and what we can do to address its devastating aftermath.

Oral Health Innovation Forum

This forum will be the first of its kind: a cross-collaboration of five major UCLA departments (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health and Public Affairs) to discuss and find feasible solutions for oral health policy changes (with a focus on Early Childhood Caries) through a lens of "Equity and Social Justice". This is a pioneering event for systems-wide change in both the delivery of oral health care policy and primary health.
